The Major Reason Why Health Informational Websites Should Be Accredited/Certified
62Consumer Alert!
You seek information from the WWW on the rash you see on your newborn, the information you find, how much reliability of the info matters to you?
See results without votingJust like so many things today on the web, sensationalized information is notoriously at the majority of it all. Thus, a consumer that seeks out for information about anything regarding their health, whether diagnostic or preventative, it is imperative that the information sought after be as real, direct, and to the matter of fact as humanly possible. It is true, as I have witnessed of friends and family, that many consumers today will try to self diagnose and even self medicate themselves before going in and paying for the high ticket items in an doctors office visit as such. They first will try to seek out the information themselves, only to go to the provider if truly their condition worsens. Though I am against this mentality, people will do what is necessary in a economic shut down that we all have experienced as of recent. Therefore, the reliability of the information must be validated in order to protect the lives of the readers it is servicing. For this reason alone, ignoring the other reasons (which I can think of 100+ more already), health information websites should be made to be accredited, placing true value on the information it stresses to the general public at hand.
Even websites for companies owned by professionals, like mine www.thecompliancedoctor.com, we should also engage third party accreditation to police our integrity with our websites to better protect the information being passed onto even professionals in health care. There is nothing worse than to be told the wrong information regarding business matters of health entities, especially when the livelihood of many would be at the mercy of the information they read and make actionable decisions. To this point, another imperative reason why we should do the honorable thing to become accredited. My site is and I recommend this to all in the health care arena. HonCode is the recommended source for international health care accreditation of website information.

Thank you for such a good article. I am learning so much more with your hubs than I do these professional journals. You write in "real time" about real matters versus these hypothetical jargoneers. Thanks again for these, keep them coming. Please.

I will admit the high cost of health care does lead me first to the www then sometimes followed by a visit to the doctor. In my defense www searches do allow me to form questions to be asked at the doctor's office. Voted useful and interesting
